High-speed chase in Boone County ends in crash

BOONE COUNTY (WISH) - An Indianapolis man running late was arrested Monday afternoon after police say he led them on a high-speed chase that ended in a crash.

Indiana State Police said Moishe D. Watkins, 42, was driving recklessly in a 1995 Chevrolet just before 1 p.m. on U.S. 421 near Ind. 32. When ISP Trooper John Perrine said when he tried to pull Watkins over, Watkins sped away, reaching nearly 150 mph and passing traffic recklessly.

ISP said just after the trooper ended his pursuit with concern for public safety, Watkins’ vehicle rear-ended a gray 2003 Ford Mustang, which spun off the roadway, overturned and crashed through a utility pole. The driver of the Mustang was not hurt, ISP said.

ISP said Watkins told the trooper he was late for a court appearance in Howard County, and that’s why he didn’t stop. He was being held Monday in the Boone County Jail, ISP said.
