Hung jury for N. Indiana mom in car trunk deaths

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - A hung jury has ended the trial of a northern indiana woman charged with felony neglect after her two sons died locked in the trunk of a hot car.

The South Bend Tribune reports the jury deadlocked Thursday night in the trial of 25-year-old Jacqueline Wilk of New Carlisle. It says a hearing in the case will be held later this month.

Deputy St. Joseph County Prosecutor Mark Roule claimed Wilk could have prevented the 2011 deaths of 2-year-old Issac Dunner, and 4-year-old Dominick Wilk by locking the car. He says she knew they had climbed into the car trunk or previous occasions.

Wilk testified Thursday that when the boys played in the car, she always supervised them.

New Carlisle is about 15 miles west of South Bend.
