IMPD finds naked man near daycare

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A female called police Tuesday at 1:18 a.m. to report a man exposing himself across the street from her apartment building, near a daycare and church.

Officers Michael Phillips and Michael Deskins of the IMPD responded to the apartment building at 32 N. Rural St. to investigate.

Jeremy Epps, 37, was arrested for one preliminary charge of public indecency and two preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement.

Officers Deskins and Phillips decided to park a street over and approach the scene on foot. On their way, they were told the man was naked and fondling himself on the sidewalk. They walked out onto North Rural Street where they noticed Epps without a single piece of clothing on and in view of the public, according to an IMPD report.

Once Epps noticed the officers, he took off in a sprint to the front porch of an apartment. Officers Deskins and Phillips ordered Epps to stop and identified themselves. They followed Epps into the apartment, drew their weapons and ordered him to the ground.

Epps refused the order, according to the police report. Officer Phillips kicked Epps’ side to get him to the ground to handcuff him. The kick was not effective, so the officer forced him to the ground. Epps then refused to put his hands behind his back.

Once Epps was handcuffed, he then refused to stay on the ground. As one of the officers tried to keep Epps on the ground, he started calling the officer "a thug who likes to choke people,” according to the report.

Epps was taken to the Marion County Jail on his three preliminary charges.
