INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the death of a suspected burglar after a store employee says he shot and killed him during and armed robbery.

According to a release from IMPD, officers were dispatched to the 21st Amendment Liquor Store at 3939 S. Keystone Ave. after a store employee called 911 saying the store was robbed.

The store clerk, Zachary Rogers, advised officers that he had shot the suspect because he was armed and attempting to rob the store.

Inside the store that night were two other clerks.

"They were scared for their lives it's not something you see everyday,"said Kendale Adams with IMPD.

Responding officers arrived on scene just before 1 a.m. and found the male victim suffering from a gunshot wound inside the store. He was pronounced dead on scene.

IMPD Homicide detectives are currently investigating this incident.

24-Hour News 8 asked Rogers if given the chance would he have done anything different.

"Absolutely not,"said Rogers. " The right people went home that night."

An autopsy of the suspect's body is scheduled for Monday morning. Detectives have not yet determined if they will press charges, but investigators say this appears to be a case of self defense.

It's unclear if Rogers will lose his job.
