INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A woman was killed and her brother was injured in a northeast side shooting where two children were found unharmed in a car.
Officers responded to the 3700 block of North Layman Avenue Tuesday at around 10:20 p.m. after a caller reported hearing gunfire followed by a woman screaming.
The woman, who hasn’t been named by police, was shot multiple times in the stomach and chest. She died at IU Health Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officials said.
Her brother, 21-year-old Jonathan Perry, was shot in the leg and taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital for treatment.
Investigators say the woman was scheduled to meet with her estranged husband to exchange the children, but it’s unclear what happened just before the shooting. Family members took custody of the children.
IMPD officials say the shooting is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
