Judge delays Julie King trial

AUBURN, Ind. (AP) - A judge has agreed to delay the trial of a northeast Indiana woman facing multiple charges in the shooting of a Waterloo deputy marshal until May.

Thirty-four-year-old Julie Marie King of Auburn has been scheduled to go on trial Oct. 26 on charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder. The Star of Auburn reports Judge Monte Brown on Friday granted the defense motion to delay the trial so it could have more time to prepare.

The felony murder charge accuses King of committing a crime in which a person is killed — in this case it was her boyfriend, Ralph Hardiek. Police say Hardiek shot Deputy Marshal Steve Brady in December 2011. Police later shot and killed Hardiek when he pointed a gun at officers.
