MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) - A central Indiana judge has rejected a sentence reduction sought by a man who pleaded guilty to his role in a brutal 1991 slaying.

Delaware Circuit Court Judge Kimberly Dowling told 40-year-old Jamie Todd Adams on Thursday that Indiana law requires the filing of requests for sentence modification within a year of an offender's conviction and that "the law is the law."

The Star Press reports Adams was 18 when he was sentenced in June 1991 to 60 years for his role in helping two other teenagers kill 31-year-old Daniel Barker.

The Eaton man driven in an isolated area in February 1991 and stabbed 47 times before being thrown into the Mississinewa River.

Adams would later maintain that a co-defendant had inflicted the fatal stab wounds.
