SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. (Shelbyville News) - A man accused of several burglaries, armed robberies, a carjacking and several other crimes one night in 2008 in Shelby County is back in the Shelby County Jail, 24-Hour News 8’s news partner The Shelbyville News reports.

Kenneth F. Kipp, 39, of Elkin, N.C. is charged with 15 felony counts after witnesses say he broke into houses, stole vehicles and robbed several Shelby County residents on July 7, 2008.

He is alleged to have begun his crime spree by breaking into the shed of a Shelby County resident. A couple then confronted him with a golf club and a broom. Kipp beat the couple and took off with some change and the couple’s car key on his motorcycle, which was reported stolen from out of Virginia.

"They also mentioned that he has a nasty scar on one shoulder which was bleeding and mentioned multiple tattoos," said a probable cause affidavit. "Kipp has a nasty scar as they mentioned and several tattoos."

Kipp entered another residence where a woman chased him off with a gun. He then entered another residence and reports say he threatened those living there. He took off with their van and some cash.

At some point, a probably cause affidavit said, he entered another residence and stole a red Chevrolet Beretta.

Police had caught up with him several times, but lost him. He reportedly made hi way to Louisville but returned to Shelby County for his job. The arrangement was for his employers to pick him up and take him to a gas station in Indianapolis on his work days.

Kipp called his father after he had been crying.

"Kenneth said he'd been working for some people, when he made the TV, they let him go," his father told a detective.

Kipps employers had heard about the police chase on television.

"On Tuesday afternoon, July 8, [his employers], who live in Noblesville, arrived at their house on London Road and Kipp was there, which they found strange. They confronted him about the news reports. They told him they couldn't use him anymore so they drove him to the gas station on Emerson Avenue," reports said.

Kipp has an extensive criminal history in Indiana and other states. After turning himself into authorities on July 11, 2009, he had warrants out in Grayson Co., Va., and Steuben Co., Ind.

Virginia had put a hold on him and he returned to Shelby County on July 30.

He is charged here with burglary resulting in bodily injury, armed robbery, two counts of theft, two counts of battery with a deadly weapon, resisting law enforcement, three counts of burglary, attempted robbery, attempted carjacking, two counts of attempted auto theft and as being an habitual offender.
