LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A Louisville man accused of murder in the death of an 18-year-old Sullivan University student has been found competent to stand trial.
Jefferson County Circuit Judge Mitch Perry ruled Thursday after hearing testimony from a psychologist who examined Gregory O'Bryan.
The Courier-Journal reports Dr. Phillip Johnson testified that O'Bryan had emotional problems, psychological problems and alcohol dependency issues but could understand the charges and assist in his defense.
Andrew Compton of Carmel, Ind., disappeared Oct. 28, 2010. O'Bryan has said Compton died while they had sex and he put the body in a garbage bin . Police tracked the bin's contents to an Indiana landfill and searched unsuccessfully for 10 days .
O'Bryan has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, sodomy, tampering with physical evidence and abuse of a corpse.
