Man calls himself a 'menace to society'

SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) - Kenneth Kipp, accused of going on a violent crime spree in 2008, was sentenced to 110 years in prison while in court Friday.

Kipp was found guilty of breaking into a family’s home, beating a man and woman who lived in the residence, and escaping with a stolen motorcycle. Officials say Kipp evaded police and broke into two more homes, stealing items from each.

Kipp later turned himself in on July 10, 2008 after facing pressure from his father.

Kipp’s trial began on Oct. 1, 2012 and he was found guilty of 11 felonies including battery with a deadly weapon, burglary resulting in injury, and resisting law enforcement.

According to a news release from the Shelby County Prosecutor’s Office, Kipp shaved his head for the sentencing hearing Friday and refused to cooperate with the judge.
Before the hearing, Kipp wrote a letter to the judge telling him, “not to do him any favors” during the hearing.

Kipp told the judge in his letter that there was nothing that could make him change the way he acts, calling himself “a menace to society.”

“I have no respect for the legal system and never will… So all of you and the legal system can go to hell,” Kipp states in his letter.

The Shelby Superior Court sentenced Kipp to 110 years in prison.
