MARION, Ind. (WISH) - Officers with the Marion Police Department responded to the report of an attempted child abduction just after 4 p.m. Saturday.
The attempted abduction took place in the area of First Street and Baldwin Avenue.
Police say a motorist in the area saw a man attempt to put a 10-year-old girl into his car. Another child, 11, was with the girl when the attempt happened.
Officers believe the suspect saw the motorist looking onto the scene, released the child, and fled west on First Street in his vehicle.
The motorist began chasing the suspect in his car.
The chase ended when the suspect crashed into another vehicle after running a stop sign.
Officers arrived to the scene of the accident and took the man into custody.
Police arrested Gary Wilder, 51. He faces preliminary charges of criminal confinement.
