INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department says one of the five men convicted in the deaths of two women and their young children is on the run.
Officials say they are searching for Tommy Warren. Warren was serving his sentence on work release when he reportedly walked away from his job earlier this week.
Warren was convicted on robbery charges following the Hovey Street murders back in 2008. Warren pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit robbery, a Class B felony. A judge sentenced him to 12 years, of which he was to spend two on work release.
Embattled Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Officer David Bisard was the first officer to respond to the scene back in 2008.
Volunteers of America, where Warren was held, could not give specifics about his stay.
However, a spokesperson added that each inmate is assigned a case worker and receive specifics times on where the inmate should arrive and leave each area.
If the inmate is two hours late he is listed as an escapee.
If caught Warren could face eight years in prison for the escape and three years for not retiring to the detention center.
