EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - An Evansville-area man accused of killing a man he believes was part of a mob that robbed his home at gunpoint has been granted a seven-week delay in his trial.

The Evansville Courier and Press reports http://bit.ly/12o6fQV Vanderburgh Circuit Court Judge David Kiely granted the request by defense attorney David Lamont, who represents 40-year-old Ira Beumer. Deputy prosecutors Gary Schutte and Charles Berger objected.

Beumer was indicted by a grand jury last May on charges of murder, attempted murder and aggravated battery. Prosecutors say Beumer rammed his truck into a car during a chase killing 22-year-old Antuan Jenkins and badly injuring another man. Beumer had pursued the men following a 2:30 a.m. break-in at his rural Evansville home.

The crash survivors and an alleged accomplice face burglary and other charges.
