MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — A man whom a prosecutor called a "ruthless monster" has received a 65-year sentence for killing a woman whose body was set on fire along an eastern Indiana city street.
Twenty-five-year-old Terry Rutledge was sentenced Monday in Delaware Circuit Court in Muncie. A jury convicted Rutledge last month of murder and obstruction of justice in the December 2011 asphyxiation death of his 40-year-old girlfriend, Tonia Ingram. Prosecutors say he killed Ingram at the home of another girlfriend.
Public defender Mark McKinney maintains the other woman killed Ingram.
The Star Press reports that Deputy Prosecutor Zachary Craig called Rutledge a "cold-blooded, ruthless monster" who couldn't be rehabilitated.
Rutledge says he intends to appeal.
