CROWN POINT, Ind. (AP) - A northwestern Indiana man has been sentenced to 56 years in prison for fatally shooting his daughter after learning the child's mother wanted to move to Texas.
Twenty-five-year-old Cordell Richardson shot his 19-month-old daughter in the chest and himself in the head in August 2009 in the parking lot of a Gary restaurant.
The Times of Munster reports that Richardson pleaded guilty to murder in September without a plea agreement in place. The Gary man faced a maximum 65-year sentence before Tuesday's sentencing.
Testimony during the hearing indicated that Richardson was distraught at the time of the shooting over the possibility that the child and her mother would be moving away.
