INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A man charged in connection with the shooting of an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer in August 2011 now faces decades behind bars.

Eugenio Gonzalez pleaded guilty to aggravated battery and was sentenced Wednesday to 30 years in prison and six years probation. He also faces deportation. Jail records show he is a citizen of Mexico.

He had initially also faced charges of attempted murder and carrying a handgun without a license.

IMPD officer Dustin Carmack was shot in the hip area as he was sitting in his patrol car , filling out a report after responding to a fight. IMPD said shots were fired from a passing car.
