INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A man initially thought to be simply a witness to a murder has now been sentenced to decades in prison in the December 2010 killing.

A jury found Jwaun Poindexter guilty of murder and attempted robbery after only 30 minutes of deliberation on Jan. 10. Wednesday, a judge sentenced Poindexter to 55 years for the murder conviction and 30 years on the attempted robbery conviction.

The case stems from the fatal shooting of Cesar Rodezno on Dec. 16, 2010. He was shot at Teal Run apartment complex near Interstate 70 and Mitthoeffer Road as he ran from the area.

Police initially considered Poindexter a witness, but about a month later arrested him in connection with the killing.
