SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - A man who went on a reckless crime spree in Shelbyville was sentenced to 210 years in prison Monday, though he’ll spend far less of that behind bars.
Lyman Dawson was involved in a series of crimes in January of this year. He was breaking into a car when someone interrupted him, prompting him to follow people to a home. While there, he fired a gun at them.
He then ran off, breaking into another home, running from there and shooting a man. He was also shot by a police officer after officers say Dawson began firing at them. Dawson was badly injured.
Dawson pleaded guilty to multiple charges of attempted murder, robbery, burglary and criminal recklessness. Several other charges were dismissed.
He was sentenced to 20-50 years for each charge, but because the sentenced will be served concurrently, he’ll only serve a maximum of 50 years in prison.
