SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - Two people from Michigan were arrested in Shelbyville over the weekend on charges of kidnapping a teenager, 24-Hour News 8 news partner The Shelbyville News reports .
Indiana State Police tracked the duo and the teenager to a grocery store in Shelbyville Friday afternoon, and local law enforcement later found them at a different nearby grocery store.
Officers arrested Shawn Rowley and Darci Lapratt, both of Caro, Mich., on the outstanding kidnapping warrant out of Michigan. They were wanted on other warrants from Michigan. Lapratt is the kidnapped 15-year-old girl’s mom, though the girl is a ward of the state in Michigan.
The teenager told police Rowley told her to get into the truck Thursday after school dismissed. It wasn’t clear why Rowley and Lapratt were in Shelbyville.
Indiana Child Protective Services took custody of the teenager while Michigan authorities traveled to Indiana to pick her up. Lapratt and Rowley were being transported back to Michigan to face their charges.
