NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - A mother arrested after police say she left her 11-month-old in a hot car has been formally charged.
Pooja Harshit Thakkar, 30, was charged with neglect of a dependent, a Class D felony, according to court documents obtained by 24-Hour News 8 Thursday.
Investigators determined Thakkar left her child in a hot car for a total of 26 minutes while shopping at Hamilton Town Center on July 23 , court documents said. Concerned shoppers reported the incident and watched as Thakkar went back to the car to put bags in the trunk, but left the child again.
A security guard followed Thakkar in her car as she went from one store to the next. Security parked a couple spots from Thakkar and shouted at her as she left the baby in the car and walked toward Bed Bath and Beyond. Still, she didn’t stop, according to court documents.
The child’s skin was hot and she was sweating, but she didn’t suffer any serious injuries. The temperature inside the vehicle was 110 degrees.
