New charges in murder of Officer Moore

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A second person now faces charges in connection with the murder of IMPD Officer David Moore in January 2011.

Thursday, U.S. Attorney Joseph H. Hogsett announced that Eric "Boo" Jenkins, 53, Indianapolis, had been charged by federal indictment with three counts of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon and one count of conspiring to provide firearms to a convicted felon.

Jenkins is accused of providing a loaded Bersa .38 caliber semi-automatic handgun to Thomas Hardy - whom Jenkins knew to be a convicted felon - on or about Jan. 23, 2011, the day Hardy shot Moore during a traffic stop. Moore died a few days later.

“This indictment sends a powerful message that even though you did not pull the trigger, you may very well be held accountable,” Hogsett said.

Jenkins, who is a felon dating back almost three decades, is also accused of selling another gun to another convicted felon.

He is already being held in Plainfield Correctional Facility on cocaine charges. If found guilty of the federal charges, he could face more than 30 years in prison.

Hogsett said the indictment is the result of the state's violent crime initiative, announced last year, that targets gun-related crimes.
