KOKOMO, Ind. (WISH) - Kokomo police are now saying 21-year-old Destiny Pittman may have been the victim of a home intrusion.
Friday evening police revealed more details in the young woman's death but speculation and confusion are swirling among community members.
According to a press release, officers responded to the 800 block of James Drive on a report of a shooting around 9:30 p.m. Thursday.
That's where they found 21-year-old Destiny Pittman unconscious and unresponsive. Pittman was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say an autopsy performed Friday evening confirmed Pittman was killed by a single gunshot wound to her upper torso and say investigators were told of a possibility that two intruders forced their way into the home.
The news has left those who knew Pittman confused and saddened.
"I haven't really heard anything about what happened. I heard that there was a shooting but I haven't really heard from anyone what motives were or anything like that," said Abbey Dockery, a former coworker of Pittman’s.
This isn't the first tragedy to hit the Pittman Family. In December 2010, 24-Hour News 8 reported that Destiny Pittman's then 2-month-old baby boy was suffocated in his sleep while lying with Pittman on a couch.
Police say no arrests have been made in Pittman's death, only stating an investigation is underway.
The Kokomo Police is asking anyone with additional information regarding this case to contact Detective Launa Bills at (765) 456-7369, or the Kokomo Police Department Hotline at (765) 456-7017.
