New possible evidence in Andrew Compton murder case

Pre-trail hearing reveals new evidence in case

LOUSIVILLE, Ky. (WISH) - Prosecutors announced a major development in the case of a man accused of killing 18-year-old Andrew Compton of Carmel.

In a pre-trial hearing Friday morning for Greg O’Bryan, 40, investigators revealed they recovered three bits of flesh found in a landfill and are now undergoing testing at a crime lab.  Officials also recovered some unidentified fluids as well.  They have asked the lab to expedite their analysis of the potential evidence.

A tentative trail date was also set for November 2012.

Compton, was a freshman at Sullivan University in Louisville, disappeared on October 28, 2011.
Family members and police discovered in their searching that he met up with a man he met online. That man, 40-year-old Greg O’Bryan, later admitted that Compton died during the men’s sexual encounter.

Louisville Police told 24-Hour News 8 O'Bryan was arrested and charged on November 9, 2011 with murder in the disappearance of Compton, a 2010 Carmel High School graduate.

O’Bryan faces charges of murder, abuse of a corpse: sexual intercourse, and tampering with physical evidence.

Officials searched a Jackson County, Ind. landfill with a canine team in hopes of locating Compton’s remains. A Louisville Metropolitan Police report says O’Bryan told police he disposed of Compton’s remains and evidence in order to conceal his death.

Compton was last seen leaving his Sullivan University dorm on Oct. 28. His family contacted police a week later when they still hadn’t heard from him.

His family temporarily moved to Louisville to work with police and conduct their own search to help find their son. On Monday, Andrew’s brother told 24-Hour News 8 he checked his brother’s e-mail and learned he met someone online.

Police say the person he met online was the last person to see him. They questioned O’Bryan, who was termed a “person of interest” at the time. He told officers the two had a sexual encounter and Compton left his apartment on foot.
