INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A man who pleaded guilty for the stabbing of a puppy will not serve any time in jail.

John Madden was sentenced to work release for 730 days. Additionally, Madden is required to attend substance abuse counseling with Marion County Community Corrections.

Officials say Madden became very upset during an argument in August , grabbed a knife from the kitchen sink, took the puppy outside and began stabbing it. The puppy was stabbed approximately five to six times, police say.

Luckily, the puppy survived the incident after being given a 50 percent chance to live.
