VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) — A northwestern Indiana man charged with being the hired killer of a 72-year-old tow truck driver has been arrested.

Authorities say 20-year-old Dontaye Singletary of Gary surrendered Wednesday evening at the Gary Police Department on an arrest warrant in the Nov. 1 shooting death of Carl Griffith at his Portage home.

The Times of Munster reports a judge entered a not guilty plea for 42-year-old Sheaurice Major of Portage on a murder count charging that she hired Singletary to kill Griffith, who worked for her estranged husband.

Major is jailed without bond and didn't discuss the charges during the Wednesday court hearing.

Singletary was jailed without bond and it wasn't clear whether he had an attorney.

Police say Griffith was shot while getting the mail at his home.
