One arrested after police chase

JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) - An Indianapolis man is in custody after he led police on a nine-minute chase Tuesday.

Nicholas Perry, 25, was arrested for resisting law enforcement in a vehicle, a Class D felony, criminal recklessness in a vehicle, a Class A misdemeanor, and operating while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor.

According to a Johnson County affidavit, around 2:35 a.m. Tuesday, an officer made a traffic stop for speeding on the Johnson County/Marion County border on Ind. 37. When he asked Perry for his license and registration, he drove away at a high rate of speed and ran over the officer’s foot.

The officer chased after the vehicle into Marion County, which eventually came to a stop at the dead end of Old Raymond Street. When the officer approached the vehicle for a second time, Perry refused to roll down his window or exit the vehicle. An officer was forced to spray Perry with pepper spray during the arrest.

When asked why he was speeding, Perry told police he “just needed to get home.” During the traffic stop, he also threw a plastic cup out the window that has Svendka vodka in it.

Perry was taken to the Johnson County Jail. A chemical test revealed Perry’s BAC was .13.
