SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — A man freed from prison after serving 25 years for killing and dismembering a Bloomington woman could return behind bars for eight more years if found guilty of violating his parole.

Fifty-seven-year-old Robert Evan Lee had 17 years remaining on his sentence when he was released in September. The Herald-Times reports that if he's found to have violated provisions of his release, state parole guidelines call for serving up to half the time he had remaining on his sentence, or about 8½ years.

Indiana Parole Board Vice Chairman Randall Gentry says Lee knew he's not allowed to hitchhike, the infraction that got him jailed Tuesday in South Bend.

Lee was convicted of the 1986 murder of a 31-year-old Bloomington woman. Public opposition has forced him to relocate several times.
