Man arrested after murder near Lapel

MADISON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) - One man was arrested after a man was found dead in Madison County early Tuesday morning.

Madison County authorities responded around 3 a.m. to a home where someone said a person had been shot, Madison County Sheriff Ron Richardson said. The sheriff’s department found a man dead in a home in the 6400 block of West County Road 300 South, east of Lapel.

The Madison County coroner told 24-Hour News 8's news partner, The Herald Bulletin , that the man killed was 22-year-old Spencer Smith. He died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Malcolm Douglas Cobb Jr, 45, was arrested on a preliminary charge of murder. He’s from rural Anderson.

The death remains under investigation, and authorities said Tuesday afternoon they were still conducting interviews.
