INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Bryant Steele, 27, was found dead Sunday, Sept. 30, in his burned out home. IMPD Homicide detectives said he was the victim of a homicide.
The day his family attended his funeral, police released a picture of the man they want to question about the homicide.
Steele's mother, Regina, told 24-Hour-News 8 she won't be able to heal until she knows who and why someone killed her son.
"By the Grace of God, he's allowing me to hold up," she said.
A small makeshift memorial sits outside a home in the 3900 block of Chateau Drive.
It was just over a week and a half ago when firefighters were called here to put out a raging fire. Inside crews found the body of Steele. Police said he had been murdered.
"I just hope they find the guy that did it and bring justice to him. It's a sin to take somebody's life like that because we all deserve to live," said Delois Steele, Victim's Aunt.
Surrounded by family, Steele's mother Regina talked to 24-Hour-News 8 just an hour after her son was laid to rest.
"I don't feel to good behind what happened to my child and who ever did it...I hope and pray that they have to whisper and tell them they did it and I just hope they be brought to justice," she said.
Tuesday, IMPD detectives released a flyer with information regarding the homicide. They are looking for a man seen leaving an east side gas station.
Regina's composure quickly changed when she saw the picture of the man wanted for questioning in her son's murder. She recognized him.
"I don't know that boy, but I saw him in my house before," she said.
"What do you want to say to this person who police are looking for right now? Because they want to talk to him," 24-Hour-News 8's Daniel Miller asked.
"We'll, you know you was at my house and you know you stayed some days at my house. I just wish that you would just go talk to the police," she said.
Steele said her family will give her strength to get through her son's death. She said others can help by coming forward.
"If you are not the one to do this - you need to go and talk to the police," Steele said.
The man in the picture is a black male, about 20-25 years old, 5'9" and weighs about 150lbs. He was last seen leaving in a White 4-door Cadillac Escalade. He's only wanted for questioning.
If you recognize him, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
