INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Metro Police have arrested a man they believe raped a woman in her north side apartment earlier this month.

According to a police report, the woman told police 25-year-old Robert Wesley broke into her apartment in the 9200 block of College Avenue in the early hours of February 17.

The woman said Wesley ambushed her near her kitchen and beat and raped her, all the while threatening to kill her several times. The woman told police Wesley stole over $300 from her purse and her cell phone.

The woman reported the incident to police that morning but waited until the next day to tell police that she believed her attacker was Wesley, a man she said she had previously met at Taylor's Pub. She said Wesley had only identified himself as "Chris" when she met him.

Police said a door to the woman's apartment showed signs of a break-in and the woman submitted to a sexual assault exam at the hospital.

Officers also say that during a search of Wesley's bedroom, they were able to recover the woman's stolen cell phone and other evidence that led them to believe Wesley is guilty.
