MUNCIE, Ind. (WISH) - A homeless woman is facing charges after she told police she molested a 6-month-old who now has a venereal disease.
Court documents reveal 21-year-old Ashley L. Stapert was arrested Wednesday afternoon after police found her at the Muncie Mission, a homeless shelter in the Delaware County city. She’s charged with Class A felony child molest and Class C felony criminal deviate conduct.
The infant’s mother went to police on Nov. 9 after a medical exam at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health revealed the child had genital warts. The mother told police she had two homeless people live with her and babysit the girl from September to November. She later learned that one of the homeless people — Stapert — molested her daughter, according to the probable cause affidavit.
Police interviewed Stapert, who detailed the types of sexual activity she engaged in with the 6-month-old, according to court documents. She said her then-boyfriend also participated. He hadn’t been arrested as of Friday morning.
A Muncie Police Department report details that Stapert admitted to the mother trying to choke and smother the baby. The mother also told police Stapert said she fondled the infant while watching pornography.
