INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A police chase involving a stolen car ended in with an IMPD car in a minor crash Wednesday night in Indianapolis.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said the pursuit began at about 7 p.m. Wednesday at 16th and Bellefontaine streets, when an officer noticed an altered temporary license plate on a black Chevrolet Impala. When the officer tried to stop the vehicle, the driver fled.
IMPD said the driver disregarded stop signs during the pursuit and as the car attempted to turn at 30th Street and Winthrop Avenue, it collided with another vehicle and both hit a nearby building, causing minor damage.
The driver of the other car was uninjured. The suspect fled toward Fall Creek. His passenger, 1 7-year-old boy, suffered minor injures and was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital, facing a preliminary charge of theft.
An IMPD patrol car trying to follow the suspect car around the corner hit a street sign. The officer was uninjured.
Officers and police dogs searched for the suspect for hours, and IMPD said tips led them to the 3700 block of Caroline Avenue, where the suspect, a 17-year-old boy, was arrested.
He was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center on preliminary charges of theft, resisting law enforcement and failure to stop after an accident.
