INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - New details about an Indianapolis dad accused of severely abusing his four-month-old son.

The Marion County prosecutor is charging Elvin Cabrera with felony battery.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Cabrera's infant son has head injuries that are severe enough to possibly kill him.

About a week ago, Cabrera brought the boy to the hospital.

The affidavit said Cabrera first told doctors his son had been choking.

But doctors got suspicious because the infant had substantial bleeding on the brain.

That's when Cabrera changed his story. He said his son fell out of a baby swing in their apartment.

But detectives didn't believe him so Cabrera altered his story again. This time he claimed he dropped his infant while feeding him.

Doctors told police the extensive injuries the baby received had to be the result of abuse.

It's not clear how the baby is doing right now because his family has requested no information be released about his condition.

Cabrera remains in jail.
