Police: Fishers student took gun to school to 'show off'

FISHERS, Ind. (WISH) - A Fishers 14-year-old is facing two charges after police said the student brought a gun to school to show off.

Police were told of the incident after another student told a parent about what happened at Fishers Junior High School. Other witnesses gave similar reports to police.

Police officials said the student showed the gun to other students before getting on the school bus at the end of the day. But investigators said there’s no indication the student intended to hurt anyone.

The school district would not comment on what type of disciplinary action the boy would face.

Parents who have students at the school were notified by the district through their parent notification system. The district also has a anonymous text system where students can report illegal activity at school.

Police officials add, ""We want kids to know when they face danger and report it," said Thomas Weger Fishers Police Department."

The 14-year-old was taken to the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Center on preliminary charges of possession of a firearm on school property and dangerous possession of a firearm.
