MARTINSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - Martinsville Police Department was investigating Monday after police said a man shot and killed his girlfriend.

The shooting happened shortly after 1 p.m. in a duplex near the intersection of Marion and Chestnut streets.

Martinsville Police Chief Darrell Davis said a 32-year-old man killed his 24-year-old girlfriend, shooting her twice. He called police dispatchers and confessed to the shooting. When police arrive, he surrendered.

Officials at the scene told 24-Hour News 8 there was a 1-year-old child in the house at the time of the shooting, but the child is OK.

Police did not immediately release the names of the shooter or the woman who was killed.
