Police ID body found off roadway in Vigo County

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - Vigo County Sheriff Detectives have identified the remains of the homicide victim found on November 3, 2012 in rural eastern Vigo County.

The deceased has been identified through dental records as Allyson J. Elmi-Lewis, 39. Family members reported her missing on Tuesday, November 6, after seeing media reports about the homicide.

The family reported that they had been unable to reach Allyson recently and were concerned after hearing the description of the unidentified deceased female, our sister station WTHI reports.

Allyson's estranged husband Enzert G. Lewis, 38, was interviewed by Vigo County Sheriff's Detectives and was arrested for violation of a "No Contact Order" in which Allyson was the victim. Detectives learned that Enzert Lewis had been residing with a family member in Terre Haute.

Sheriff Greg Ewing said Mr. Lewis is considered a "person of interest" in Ms. Elmi-Lewis's death. Court records show that, in 2011, Mr. Lewis was arrested and charged with Sexual Battery, Criminal Confinement, Rape, Strangulation and Domestic Battery. They also show those charges were later dropped. Authorities said Ms. Elmi-Lewis had been listed as the victim in that case.

Earlier this week, Vigo County Coroner Roland Kohr determined through an autopsy on Monday that Allyson had died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head. Vigo County Sheriff Greg Ewing assembled a team of over twenty investigators, calling on assistance from the Vigo County Prosecutors Office, Indiana State Police, Clay County Sheriff's Office, the FBI, Indiana Department of Homeland Security, and Vigo County Search and Rescue.

Ewing said investigators are still trying to piece together the information they have in hopes of finding out exactly what happened to Ms. Elmi-Lewis.

Ewing stressed that the investigation is continuing, and is urging the public to come forward with any information about Allyson Elmi-Lewis's death, and specifically her last known whereabouts prior to her death.
