INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Police on Tuesday released the name of a man shot and killed by an officer during a burglary investigation Monday night on the city’s northeast side.
Lenon Henry, 52, Indianapolis, was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident in the 3800 block of North Arlington Avenue.
Police were originally called to the home for a burglary with the suspect still inside, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officials said. The homeowner told them there were guns inside.
In the basement, officers confronted Henry, who had a large coat over the top half of his body, IMPD officials said. Officers reportedly ordered Henry to show them his hands at least 10 times before trying to move the coat. That’s when, IMPD says, Henry reached for the waistband of his pants in a sudden motion.
The quick motion made the officers fear for their safety, and one of the officers fired his gun as a result.
Investigators didn’t find a weapon on Henry.
