LOGANSPORT, Ind. (WLFI) - Logansport police are searching for the person responsible for raping and assaulting a four-year-old girl.

Lieutenant Cathi Collins said the girl was attacked and raped early Sunday morning between three and 6:30 a.m.

Police say the girl had been spending the night in a residence on Plum Street with her mother and siblings.

According to our news-gathering partner, the Pharos Tribune, police said the owner of that house is now considered a person of interest.

Lt. Collins said when the girl's mother went to bed around 3 a.m., her daughter was safe in the home. But around 6:30 that morning, the four-year-old was seen at the corner of Plum Street and Linden Avenue.

Her mother found her back in the home around 8:30 Sunday morning. She then called police and reported the crime.

She was originally taken to Logansport Memorial Hospital before being transferred to Riley Hospital here in Indianapolis.

The girl was released from the hospital Sunday night.

"We're looking at every possible aspect of investigation as far as where we're going to go. I interviewed multiple people yesterday. I started out again this morning at eight o'clock and we're just putting everything together that we can put together," said Lt. Collins.

Lt. Collins says she has reason to believe the rape happened in a garage near the home where the young girl was staying.

Logansport police are asking anyone with any information to call their office at 574-753-4101.
