FISHERS, Ind. (WISH) - Fishers Police issued an alert after burglars hit three different homes in the past four days.
The break-ins happened in a five mile radius of 116th Street and Cumberland Road. Fishers Police responded Monday to the neighborhood after a house alarm went off. Unfortunately, by the time they arrived, the suspects were already gone.
“From the outside, you couldn’t tell something had happened,” said Pamela of Fishers.
But inside Pamela’s home you can see the damage.
“There’s wood off the doorway; the door had been compromised,” she said.
The suspect kicked in her front door and walked out with her jewelry and other personal belongings. Pamela and her husband were at work when the burglars struck.
“You think of the what if’s; what if we had been home. What if my son had been home,” she said.
Just Monday, police were busy asking questions and taking fingerprints from inside a home in the Spyglass Hills subdivision after someone burglarized it. And just like at Pamela's house, the suspect kicked in the door and in about 90-seconds, got away with the homeowner’s jewelry.
“The burglaries have occurred during the afternoon hours when the residents have not been at home,” said Fishers Police Officer Tom Weger.
Fishers police are working overtime to find the suspects responsible. Investigators believe there’s a reason why these victims were targeted.
“It appears that these burglars are specifically targeting these homes that are unoccupied,” Officer Weger said.
Police are urging homeowners to use their house alarms and look out for each other. Fortunately, for Pamela it was a neighbor who called police.
“The one day my husband didn’t turn on the alarm…it would have gone off it we turned it on,” she said.
“We are encouraging area residents to contact the police department; call 911 if they see anything suspicious, any suspicious vehicle,” Officer Weger said.
Police said one of the victims reported seeing a white van with a black plastic bag over the driver’s side window, but there's been no sign of that van since the crimes.
In the meantime, they have stepped up patrols in these neighborhoods and nearby businesses to make sure residents are safe.
