Police: cousin accused of shooting 5-year-old child

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The child who was shot Thursday night along Lawton Avenue didn't pull the trigger. Police are accusing the child's cousin, 18-year-old Izriol Santiato, of shooting the child.

Police say Santiato has been arrested on a preliminary charge of Criminal Recklessness with a Weapon. Officers report Santiato was playing with the gun he recently purchased when it fired.

The 5-year-old is in critical condition after being shot in the head around 9 p.m. Thursday. Medics rushed the child to Riley Hospital where he was reported to be in critical condition.
