CONNERSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - A Connersville man was arrested Friday morning after trying to run over a trooper with his vehicle, police say.
Police attempted to stop a pickup truck that was driving without headlights when the pickup refused to stop and lead the officer on a short pursuit.
The vehicle ended up veering off SR 44, driving into a field, and hitting a tree. The trooper got out of his vehicle to check on the driver's welfare and the suspect began to drive the vehicle towards the trooper.
The officer was able to avoid the car and fired at the truck with his gun. The suspect then surrendered.
The suspect was later identified as 39-year-old Chad Neukam of Connersville. Neukam was not injured in the incident. Officials believe alcohol may have been a factor in this accident. He has been taken to the Fayette County Jail.
Police say this is an ongoing investigation.
