ANDERSON, Ind. (WISH) - Police have tracked down and taken into custody a man accused to trying to run over a police officer Wednesday night.
Madison County deputies took the man into custody in Randolph County. He suffered a bite from a K-9, and the vehicle he was in had a bullet hole through the windshield.
According to Anderson Police, 28-year-old Dustin Mullins, attempted to run over Officer Warren Warren in a stolen 2002 Chevy Tahoe.
Police say Warren spotted the stolen vehicle stopped near the intersection of Van Buskirk Road and Raible Avenue just before 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. When Warren tried to arrest Mullins, Mullins reportedly drove towards the officer, hitting the squad car.
Officer Warren fired at Mullins with his gun. Police say the bullet passed through the windshield and grazed Mullins' right shoulder.
Neighbor Angela Skaggs heard the shot and witnessed the encounter.
"It was very devastating. It did upset me because we don't normally have that kind of thing going on in this area" said Skaggs.
Mullins escaped and drove south of Raible Avenue. The stolen vehicle was later discovered in the 2700 block of Arrow Avenue. Police set up a perimeter around the area but were unable to locate Mullins.
On Thursday detectives say Mullins stole a second vehicle and slipped by police a second time. Madison County Sheriff deputies tracked him down on Friday.
"They chased him through Delaware County into Randolph County. Some area there. The vehicle actually crashed into a creek bed" said Anderson Police Chief Larry Crenshaw.
Deputies used a K-9 to help make the arrest. Mullins is currently being held at the Madison County Jail. He was wanted on a warrant for a child molesting case.
