MUNCIE, Ind. (WISH) - After a year long investigation, Friday police raided five places in Muncie during a bust of a sports betting ring.
When Denis Barry wants a good lunch with friends, it's the Oasis Tavern.
"The food is great," said Barry.
So when Kayla Burris saw state troopers there Friday afternoon she figured the food must be good.
"There were five Indiana state police cars over there. Nobody was outside, nobody whatsoever but there was just cars over there and I didn't know what was going on," said Burris.
But troopers weren't there to eat. State police were working alongside the state gaming commission raiding the Oasis as part of a sports betting ring bust.
During the raid at the Oasis Tavern officials say they removed some documents and a slot machine. No arrests were made but the investigation is ongoing.
Also raided Friday was the Madison Square Garden on East Wysor Street and three residences; all targets after a year-long investigation into sports betting in Muncie.
Authorities say no sport was off limits even high school games were money machines.
"To actually have it in your backyard running that big that is just very surprising," said Barry.
But for Kayla Burris, who's lived her whole life in this small city, it's not hard to believe at all.
"It's Muncie. I've been here since I was a baby. I'm 21 years old, yeah, everybody gambles."
Larry Rollins, Director of the State Gaming Commission's Control Division said previous warrants were issued in Henry County, where similar betting happened.
Rollins will be presenting Friday's findings to Delaware County's prosecutor next week.
