INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Police are looking for a man they say poses as a home-improvement worker to scam elderly people out of money.
John Perkinson, 31, is wanted for home improvement fraud, theft and criminal mischief, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officials said.
Perkinson reportedly tells elderly women he was working on a neighbor’s home when he noticed raccoons on the roof, IMPD officials said. Perkinson goes on to explain the types of damage raccoons can cause, including chewing wires that could create an electrical fire risk.
While pretending to do an inspection, officers say Perkinson actually damages the homes. Then he tells the homeowner that repairs are needed, and enters into a contract to make the repairs. After collecting money, Perkinson never returns, according to police.
Anyone with information about Perkinson’s whereabouts is asked to contact IMPD at 317-327-3811 or Crime Stoppers at 317-327-TIPS.
