Robbery prompts Butler U. lockdown

Suspects fled CVS with bag of drugs

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Butler University sent out an alert that the campus was on lockdown Sunday afternoon while police searched for robbery suspects.

Dispatchers say police were searching for two suspects involved in an armed robbery that occurred at a CVS located on 119 W. 56th St. just after 11:30 a.m. One suspect was described as a white male with short brown hair.

Two suspects fled the store with a bag of drugs and headed toward Butler's campus.

One suspect jumped out of the car and is now in custody.

Police are still searching for the other suspect, he is believed to be armed and dangerous. According to a tweet from the BUPD, The suspect is a white male, about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds. The man was last seen wearing a burgundy shirt and blue jeans.

K9 units were also dispatched.

Dispatchers say a Ford Mustang was involved in the incident.

Butler University warned people to stay inside.

Around 1:45 p.m. Butler Police tweeted that city police were releasing the search because the suspect was not located. They tracked him by K9 into the wooded area west of campus.

The lockdown was lifted and police gave the all clear just before 2 p.m.

Extra BUPD will be out on patrol. The campus is open but students, faculty, staff and visitors are asked to remain cautious.
