INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Family members are looking for answers, after a 24-year-old was hurt in a hit and run early Saturday morning.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to the area of South Pennsylvania and East South Street at 12:30 a.m. to the report of a pedestrian struck, according to a police report.

When police arrived they found a man lying in the street, unconscious with head injuries.

That man was 24-year-old Jason Mills. His friends say they were crossing Pennsylvania Street early Saturday morning. They say a dark blue SUV heading southbound ran a red light, and hit Mills on the left side, knocking him into the air.

"Jason was the first one off the sidewalk, he maybe took three or four steps before he got hit by the SUV," said friend Kyle Scaggs, who saw the whole thing in front of him. "Jason probably flew ten feet or so, and the SUV continued driving."

"I've never seen anything like that. It's really tough," said friend Jake Snyder. "He was coming through the intersection at 30 miles an hour when he hit Jason."

Family says Mills suffered a skull fracture, a broken knee cap, and broken bones in his legs and hand. They say his condition had improved on Sunday and he was responsive.

Now they're hoping for help from the public to find the person that hit their friend and family member.

"I'm not looking for justice, I'm just looking for answers," said Mills' brother Grant. "Anything people can do. If you turn yourself in just so you can let us know so we can get some peace of mind about all this."

"I just want somebody to be accountable. That's what I'm looking for," said Mills' dad David.

Police say the vehicle should have left side and front end damage. It was described as a dark blue SUV.  Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
