INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Local police continue to battle home break-ins and burglaries. Now they’re educating folks on how to avoid becoming a victim.
Police say homeowners can easily protect themselves against home break-ins, and they're teaching folks how in a series of meetings.
A few easy things folks can do around the house are keep bushes trimmed and install lights, giving would-be burglars fewer places to hide.
Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry stressed that criminals aren't sticking to one neighborhood.
So, he said, prosecutors from different counties are working together to round up and prosecute burglars.
“Burglars are like anyone else: if you focus on any given area, then they're going to move to another area to target,” Curry said. ”We've certainly had an uptick in burglaries in the southeast part of the county. ”
Curry reminded folks to keep doors locked, and, when you’re not home, close and lock all windows.
