WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Coach Danny Hope has dismissed senior cornerback Sean Collins from the Purdue football team after his weekend arrest .
Collins faces preliminary charges of public intoxication, resisting arrest and battery after allegedly hitting a 22-year-old woman early Saturday outside a West Lafayette bar. The woman was treated and released at a hospital.
Purdue issued a new release Tuesday saying the arrest and the seriousness of the allegations warranted Collins' removal from the team.
Hope says the charges against Collins "violate the core values of Boilermaker football and Purdue athletics."
Collins, from Indianapolis, was a walk-on who joined the team in 2009. He did not play in any games over three seasons.
Collins doesn't have a published telephone number and he couldn't be reached for comment.
