INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The Fort Wayne Journal Gazette is reporting that Charlene Lugar, Indiana Senator Richard Lugar's wife, was sentenced Tuesday in a November 2009 arrest for drunk driving case .

The paper reports Charlene Lugar, 76, pleaded guilty to drunk driving last week. As a result, she lost her driver’s license for a year and will have to participate in alcohol counseling. Lugar was sentenced to 30 days in jail but the jail sentence was suspended, the paper says.

When McLean, Virginia police arrived at the scene on November 18, 2009, they found Charlene Lugar’s vehicle with front-end damage.

Police believed Charlene was drunk when she crashed into a parked car.

Officers arrested Charlene at the scene. At the time she faced two misdemeanor charges including one count of driving while intoxicated and one count of hit and run.
