WESTFIELD, Ind. (WISH) - This is not how Jenelle Rice pictured her day going. Her prized possession, a maroon Jeep on chrome wheels, suffered some serious damage.
Thieves used a knife to slash the plastic windows of the Jeep for a radar detector.
This happened in her driveway in the Countryside subdivision.
"It's been very frustrating to be in a neighborhood with people you trust and your windows are slashed," said Jenelle Rice.
The same type of crime took place a few houses down, but this time the thieves smashed the windows.
There have been a total of five car break-ins in one week. Despite those numbers, Westfield police say car break-ins are down.
Police urge residents to remove valuables from their car each night and lock their doors.
The most valuable item thousands of Hoosiers leave in their vehicle each night is their garage openers.
Westfield Police Department has seen two cases where burglars used a garage opener to get into a home.
